Oh, how I love the Dublin Murder Squad. I don’t think I’ve ever loved such a group of screwed up detective quite as much as I love Tana French’s group of characters. Well, maybe I love Chelsea Cain’s, Archie Sheridan, as much but that’s about it.

This is my idea of a perfect summer read. Interesting characters, a story line that goes back into the past, a murder without too much gore, and a fresh writing style. The story takes place in Faithful Place in Dublin, a kind of row house tenement where the families all are intertwined and keep secrets. Perfect for the beach.

Faithful Place was a quick, interesting escape. I figured out who did it pretty early in the book, so the reveal at the end wasn't so mind-blowing. And Detective Mackey's family was so depressing and ugly to each other that it wasn't a fun escape. Maybe this is why I usually stick to sci-fi or fantasy when I'm looking for a quick fun read. Overall, it kept me interested, but wasn't my favorite.
