Eddie Russet lives in a world where society is divided by what color you can see with purples being the highest and greys, who see no color, being the menial labour. Eddie is sent to East Carmine in the outer fringes to teach him humility after trying to introduce a new system of queing. Eddie falls for Jane Grey and begins to learn the truth about his society.

This review is a difficult one for me, because I didn't really care for this story very much, but at the same time, I respected the creativity of Fforde. I appreciated his approach to writing a unique type of dystopian novel, but I found the story to be all over the place. There were too many characters, some of whom I didn't think were necessary to the story, and I also found the results of the "big mystery" to be anti-climatic.

Dystopian fans should stick with Lowry and Collins trilogies. I wo

Think I'll change my name to SunFflower. Something about having 2 f's makes the name suspiciously intriguing....This book is funny. Funny ha-ha, that is, and seriously weird, but clever at the same time. Obsessions with spoons, vicious yateveo trees and nightloss feature in the daily lives of the colour-segregated people in this dystopic society, and the climax of the book is an Isihara test. Crazy!
