For some reason whenever I picked this up it felt like ploughing a muddy field. Lumpy and hard to get through. I found out some of the symbolism in it which made sense but to me this whole book was not a magical treasure chest with hidden meanings but simply one of the most badly written pieces of work I've come across in a long time. "Without rules there will be chaos"
The fourth or fifth time I've read this famous story, and every time I find myself fixated on a different thing. This time it was a moment in the late-going when Ralph stares at what was once a pig's head on a pike, and is now a bleached skull. He stares at the bleak remains of something and seemingly asks himself how it came to be.

I liked the message of the book. I think it was well-written. I like the books that make me think about things. I am glad I finally read it.
