This is my favorite Austen novel, perhaps in part because I have always identified with the somewhat undemonstrative Elinor, but also because I have a rather dim view of overly romanticized love. Love songs, 'till-death-do-we-part, being swept off one's feet, bouquets of red roses, monster weddings... that's all what the modern Marianne would pine for and I detest. I've always rooted for Elinor and considered her one of Austen's finer creations. This novel is slower paced than Pride or Prejudice

I have read this lovely novel of Austen's several times and enjoyed it even more due to this nice edition. The notes are very helpful -- very professionally conveyed and just a great help as notes should be. As for Sense and Sensibility and the story itself, it is one of Austen's best stories with characters of many facets. One of those stories that stays with you so much that you remember where you were sitting when you first read it, if you know what I mean.
