Can't quite figure out why this was such a runaway bestseller. I was pretty bored through most of it, although did push on to the [terrible, hackneyed, so unrealistic] end. Some lovely little daily-life metaphors throughout. Was this supposed to be subverting/exoticizing the conventions of romance, but it actually ended up underlining them in silly, annoying ways? Why did you love this book, America? Simple Asian fetish material?
