An amazing first effort from Paolo Bacigalupi. I'd have to put this alongside "Neuorumancer" and "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" as the best science fiction I've ever read. The requisite noir tone and exotic locales are here in spades. First rate science fiction projects our current terrors into a dystopian future. Baciagalupi shows us a world decimated by peak oil, climate change, and genetic engineering run amok that may well portend our actual future if we don't change our ways. ...more
