Not sure why I started with #3 in this series, but this was my first book in the Harry Hole series. This was a very intense, intricate mystery that had me guessing until almost the end. I absolutely loved Harry Hole! I'm definitely going back and starting with #1 (The Bat)!

I actually have read this one twice, although as I did the re-read I kept going past each section realizing that I had read more and more and...I think it was the last 60 or so pages that I hadn't finished.
This is significant, at least to me, because I can remember thinking the book was overrated throughout the first reading and not worth my time. I think better of the book because of the 2nd reading. I have enjoyed the Harry Hole books a lot so far (this is #3). I’d like to dive into #4 right now, but I have a couple of other books to read first.
This is the longest one of the first three and quite complex, as it follows stories in the present time (or the year 2000, which I imagine was around the present time when the book was written) as well as 1943/44/45, during the war.

I like the Harry Hole series, and I liked this book. At the beginning, I had some trouble getting into it because of the constantly shifting points of view, but about halfway through, I couldn't put it done. A solid entry in this series.
