This wonderfully imagined novel is based on a set of 6 tapestries called The Lady and the Unicorn. They were made sometime in the 15th century probably in Brussels for a French Aristocrat. Chevalier creates a story imagining who the supposed artist and weavers are and creates a great story about the tapestries. better than virgin blue, this book tells a good story about how an ancient tapestry is being made. The characters, although still annoying for my taste, have interesting chemistry. and the ending itself making it worth it to endure the annoyance of the cassanova wanna be: Nicolas des Innocents!

The story of two 15th century families linked by a series of tapestries and the rakish artist who designed them. A light hearted if somewhat bawdy tale but still managing to be "pretty" as Chevalier's books often are.
