A young woman in Renaissance, daughter of a wealthy cloth merchant, dreams of becoming a painter. Her mother secretly tolerates her daughter’s experiments with painting. But, when war threatens Florence, Alessandra’s parents decide it is safest for her to marry. The marriage is a disaster but the circumstances allow Alessandra to finally devote time and resources to her art.
