Although this book doesn't have the emotional wallop of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak , it is a solid read in its own right. The premise is that a young man gets a series of messages that he needs to deliver throughout the course of the story. I really admired Zusak's creativity in this regard, because each message was well thought out and made sense within the context of the overall theme of the book. The writing in this book is beautiful. I am not sure why this is classified as a YA book, it reads more as an adult novel. I really liked all the secondary characters, especially the coffee-drinking dog, named Doorman. It was a bit predictable though, even though it was supposed to be a big mystery. I did enjoy reading it none-the-less.

I agree with most of what Rachel said in her review. For the most part I really enjoyed the book and there were many touching moments, but I wasn't blown away by it like I was with The Book Thief. I don't really have much else to say. ...more
