This book was raved about and perhaps that's why it was a bit of a let down for me. I love the authors writing style, I just didn't like the protagonist that much. I was getting a little tired of all the detail surrounding the Jewish faith as well.
All in all, it was ok and some parts were very well crafted, but I wouldn't recommend it with gusto.

One of the best books I read this year! Basically, it's about an "Indiana Jones" of a librarian!

I enjoyed this book tremendously, especially the historical parts where we were taken to the long journey of the haggadah. I love it how Geraldine Brooks can create a story for each small artifact that Hanna the heroine found in the book. My favorite part is the Sevilla story, but I love the others nonetheless. The only thing that I don't really care about is Hanna herself, with her pompous mother and first world problem. Jeez. Why can't these historical fiction writers create likable current ch

This story flits between the present day story of Hanna, a specialist in old books, and short stories of people who have been in contact with the book which Hanna is working on.

It took me almost a full month to read this - mostly because I pretty much hated the first 200 pages. I kept going because I also hate not finishing books, and both Jenn and my mom loved it. I really did like the last 168 pages, and looking back am not sure why it took me so long to get into it. Or maybe it just falls into that category of "liked ok." And with so many books out there to devour and love, why bother?
