As claustrophobic as this made me I really liked the whole idea of the story. Brilliant shades of grey. Fowles created the Clegg character really well, because I honestly didn't know whether to consider him as a poor and lonely young man or a creepy and antisocial jerk. The Miranda part was at times a bit annoying but it gave a little humanity and feeling to the story. Her anxiety was definitely coming through from the pages. Este un roman care se lecturează destul de ușor, este atractiv și te ține până la final cu sufletul la gură. Cel puțin pe mine m-a ținut. Frederick este un bărbat aparent normal și cu ocupații obișnuite, colecționează fluturi. Totul este bine până în clipa în care răpește o tânără, pe Miranda, de care se crede îndrăgostit.(...)

I never really figured out the thought processes of either one of the main characters, the butterfly collector and his "Butterfly". Neither one was anywhere neat normal (whatever that is) but their interplay carries the tale. Both seem to be struggling to attain some idea of what they wish their lives to be but the harder they try the worse their condition seems to become. Not a book when you want to be uplifted! ...more
