I might have read this book years & years ago--but can't really remember. I decided to do the audiobook and though it seemed to take a bit to get into it, thought it was an interesting future take on where the world might go, from back in Huxley's day. Everything meticulously engineered, clinical, controlled, expunged, carefully edited, geared towards keeping the plebes happy & juiced-up on what they call soma. About 2 years ago, I decided to re-read some of the dystopian books I read in high school, mainly because I had forgotten the plots: Animal Farm, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Fahrenheit 451, and finally this book. I have to say I almost wish I hadn't re-read this one, because it didn't particularly strike me as being a great story. The writing was fine, but I didn't like the characters or the story.

By all accounts, I should've enjoyed this book. Maybe I would've if I'd read it back in high school. But good lord was the prose difficult as all hell to get through. I only made it through bc a friend lent it to me and he'd said he'd thought it would be right up my alley. Now I gotta lie to him 😮💨😒
