Jane Eyre is my favorite classic. I first read it the summer before I started high school. It was on the summer required reading list.

The last time I read this was in the 1970s. This is the first audio novel I ever listened to properly. It is absolutely beautifully read by actress Thandie Newton. She does the accents. She does the voices: gruff, cold, loving, such a range. The voice of the narrator Jane Eyre is especially compelling, so much emotion, so much nuance. She made the book seem completely fresh; I could have listened to her forever.
