I went into this book with high hopes after having read "The Kite Runner" and I believe my expectations have been met.
The book mainly follows the lives of two women in Afghanistan. You watch each of the characters grow up and suffer one terrible thing after another. Somehow, they each still find things in their lives to appreciate. They find reason to be happy to be alive.
And despite everything, the characters have a strong sense of nationality even for a country which has suffered occupation ...more
