What can I say about this book that hasn't been said by thousands of other readers already? It's two mysteries in one: Mikael Blomkvist is a discredited financial journalist who takes on a pointless murder investigation only because his new employer promises information about Blomkvist' enemy that will vindicate the journalist. For nearly a year Blomkvist, with the help of unethical computer genius Lisbeth Salander, pieces together the day 16 year-old Harriet was murdered.

I've been hearing for a while now that this book was great, especially from my international friends. I don't generally love thriller/mystery type books, but this one was very good - I liked it enough that I bought it, along with the second book in the trilogy, as a Christmas gift for my dad. I enjoyed the setting in Sweden - totally new to me - and also thought it was engaging and smart, and had very interesting and likable characters.

Truly mixed feelings about this book. On one hand it was a very well mapped out mystery with excellent character and plot development that I could not put down for the last 300 pages. On the other hand, the content was at times beyond disturbing for the sexual violence. I'm not sure that the means (enduring some pretty traumatizing material) justifies the ends (the resolution of the mystery). I'm feeling conflicted about this book. Will I read The Girl Who Played with Fire? hmmmm? Not sure, but
