What Members Thought

Of course I remembered the door slam. I hadn't recalled the economic underpinnings of this play. Nora forged to obtain money, but only because the entire society forced her into a second class status. The door slam reverberates more strongly because while much has changed, we still use social class, gender class, and race to control and classify people. Play your role -- or else. Where better than a play to get a little bit of irony thrown in on the analysis of the roles society foists on us.

I read this in high school, but didn't really understand why it was important or groundbreaking. If I reread it now, I would maybe appreciate it, knowing its historical and cultural context.
