What Members Thought
Definitely an immersion into an unusual world. Also a page turner. I don't have much of a reference point for this book, but I really enjoyed it.

At first the over-the-top characters grated on me, but gradually I got into the spirit of things and found myself enjoying the ludicrous melodrama. I ended up really enjoying this!! Balancing the melodrama with Rachel’s down-to-earth American attitude was genius. The story is told with an omniscient narrator, bouncing from scene to scene a like a TV soap, with each vignette ending on a tiny cliff-hanger.
The ending surprised me a bit, because some of the storylines were not resolved. I guess that ...more

Hilarious, entertaining and crazy- just like its title- this book has successfully made me laughing out loud for the most part of my reading. Fast paced, too- with so many relatable moments and cultural reference that was funny and borderline inappropriate :D
The Indonesian translation is pretty good although I'm curious with the original Singlish version. Kevin Kwan seems to know exactly what he's writing about and I immediately ordered the second installment as soon I finished this book XD

Overall, I liked this book! It did take me some time to get into the book. There were too many characters introduced too quickly at the beginning. I thought that the characters should have been more gradually introduced and the author could have spent more time developing Nicholas and Rachel's relationship at the beginning of the book.
I will likely read the other books in the series! ...more

I don't really like reading about rich people, and I don't really like reading about awkward things happening to nice people (see also Where'd You Go, Bernadette on both counts) so this was probably not the book for me. Still, I enjoyed the end and I might actually continue with the series and read China Rich Girlfriend. And I'm soooo glad this is a movie. I think I'd like the movie more than the book, if/when I get around to watching it.

Crazy Rich Asians opened my eyes to a world that I will most likely never see. It was an interesting glimpse into the lives of some of the richest people on the planet and a good mix of traditions, both those of the Asian culture and that of the extremely wealthy. I found myself thinking of Richard and Emily Gilmore a couple of times.
This book was so much fun! While it's pretty predictable it's perfect for a light fun read when you're in the mood for something like that.
