Very Russian (Georgian) very LONG (944 pages) family saga. Wonderful writing, and altho I had to read a few shorter books in between, I could always get right back into the storyline. Eight generations of this family, hence the book title, and their trials and tribulations. The Soviet Rebublic is just a much a character in this novel as the people.
