I very much enjoyed this sinister and surreal gothic novel but I must admit it did unnerve me so that I checked the locks on my doors and windows. A story of mistrust, hidden secrets and misplaced family loyalties, everything a good horror novel should produce. "Mexican Gothic" is much like the book "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson, in that nothing is what it seems and the characters start to fracture. I listened to the audiobook version and can I just say....it’s FANTASTIC. I couldn’t wait to get in the car (I listen to audiobooks while driving). Imagine my excitement when I discovered the novel will soon be a limited series on HULU!
