Wonderful characters! The story is told from first-person point of view, but each chapter comes from one of four different women:
1. Ara is a talented but mute hairstylist.
2. Kyuri works at a room salon entertaining men - a brothel for Korean businessmen. She's had extensive facial surgery in order to achieve a required standard of beauty.
3. Miho, an artist, is Kyuri's roommate.
4. Wonna is married. She lives downstairs and is trying to get pregnant.

I thought at first that this fictional story must be exaggerating the prevalence of plastic surgery in Korea, but then I looked into the subject and was depressed by what I learned. Korean women paying to have their eyelids slashed and stitched to form a crease. Healthy, normal jawbones being broken (!) and reshaped to create a pointy, anime-style chin. High school seniors being gifted plastic surgery as a graduation present, as if cutting up a woman’s face were no more consequential than a spa
