I received a free copy as part of the GR First Reads program, and I was super excited to win this, but hoo boy! This. Book. Is. So. Slow. And. Long. And I was completely unprepared for the magical realism. Magical realism is very much Not My Thing. But if you like long, detailed, quirky sagas with a mix of genres, you may love this book.

This is one of those 3.5 situations. 4 because the writing was strong, vivid, fun. 4 because the characters were interesting, unique, and relatable. 4 because I love generational novels. 3 because it really coulda been done a lot sooner. 3 because it could have come together a bit stronger. 3 because even as much as I enjoyed the story and characters I really did lose interest about a 100 pages from the end and had to push myself to finish it. So. 3.5. Not upset I put time into it though.
