From my rating, you can tell how much I loved this well written and important novel. It is still vibrating in my brain, and I need a little time to process the characters and events. I am very very glad I read this, but it is not an easy subject. And it’s the author’s DEBUT novel.

Whew. There are some real good points in critical goodreads reviews about how this book reinforces stereotypes about Arabs and Arab Americans. Rum herself has said she grappled with her concern about writing a book that to some extent shares elements with the "single story" that gets applied to Palestinians and Palestinian diaspora. I liked this book a lot although I have mixed feelings about the outcome and not sure what the author is trying to say about being a woman.
One of the best books I've read in a long time.
