3.5 stars- not my most fave Flavia’s story- a bit too much unnecessary distractions in my opinion. The core of the mystery was a bit neglected and the solution is unsatisfactory. But still- Flavia charmed me as usual, and I’m intrigued on where Bradley will take the series now that some major tragedy has happened. The next book just came out and I can’t wait to delve into it!!

Reading a new Flavia De Luce book is a bit like visiting with a comfortable old friend. It feels so great. This installment was, in my opinion, a lot better than the past two. I really enjoyed seeing her relationship with Dogger and her sisters evolve. I hope that Dogger keeps recovering from his PTSD and will be the anchor Flavia needs at this difficult time in her life.

3.5. I just love Flavia’s cheek and Jayne Entwhistle reads her so well.
