Much as I love Flavia, I've been wondering how Bradley would keep the series going as she aged. Here, he brings the best of both worlds by addressing the long-running mystery of Harriet de Luce's fate and setting the stage for the next phase in Flavia's life. While the plot's a bit thin because of the book's transitional nature, I think it will be well worth it for the new avenues Bradley's set himself up to explore.

Flavia strikes back! This latest installment actually talks more about De Luce family (finally!!!) and all the mysterious background of the disappearance of Hariet, Flavia's mother. Unlike the previous Flavia's mysteries, this time I can actually guess who the culprit is since the middle of the book. But still, the family history is interesting enough as the main story of this book. Can't wait for next Flavia adventure!!

Definitely a book to be read as a part of the series. I don't think this book would stand alone as some of the others would. A transitional part of the overall story it will delight Flavia fans. I would not recommend to anyone who hasn't read the others.
