Considering I'm not one to drool after hyped books or chase new releases (especially the lighter sort) in general, it's relatively surprising The Woman in the Window grabbed my attention. But, as I've said before, I'm always on the lookout for harmless mysteries/thrillers with interesting premises to consume as little snacks, and the similarities with one of my favorite Hitchcock movies was what drew me in this time.

The problem with an author who is a psychopath/sociopath, it turns out, is that he has zero empathy for other people. In other words, he has no idea how other people think or feel or speak. All of the conversations and reactions in this book feel false and stilted. He has no idea how people pass the time, what their habits or hobbies or preferences might be. Everything in this book that is intended to make the characters have, you know, a character, feels fake and forced. Anna pontificates. Anna

4 and a half ⭐️
A terrific psychological thriller that kept me on pins and needles with a bunch of twist and turns. There were parts that were absolutely terrorizing and parts that were predictable, but I went with my suspension of disbelief and just enjoyed it. it’s a fast read and a fast moving story that enfolds with some flashbacks. I was surprised to learn it was a male author and about his real life drama. Regardless, a very fun read

4.5 stars for an energetic and captivating read that has inspired me to download all the old horror/mystery movies referenced. A few twists I called, a few I couldn’t possibly, only a bit of “too perfect”-ness in the circumstances and some too-convenient monologuing at the end loses a half-star. (When will goodreads finally realize how much we need half-star options?) but honestly, enjoyed this one very much, and realize how dependent I have become on books like this to help me relax and for pur

4.5 Stars. A must read for any Hitchcock fan.

Fun! And the whizbang break from reality I needed today.
I loved Rear Window growing up and enjoyed this retelling as well as the references to other classic thrillers. Some parts were predictable and the whole drunk/drugged memory questioning woman shows up too much in recent fiction. But! The caged beast setting and quick pacing of days and the added layer of internet interactions kept things moving. Also, I'd read a whole book about David. ...more

This won't really stick with me, but it was a quick read for vacation that kept me interested.

I was so annoyed by the narrator of this book. I read it mostly because it’s everywhere and I wanted to read it before the movie comes out but I really had to push to finish it. I’ll probably still watch the movie just to how it plays out. I’m surprised I was so annoyed by the narrator when I would normally feel so much empathy and connection with a woman going through what Anna is going through. Not the case. Glad when it was over.
