I bought this at a Chronicle Books warehouse sale on a whim. All I knew was that it took place in Russia, and I like books on Russia. The story pushes forward through three interwoven threads - the main story, which follows a group of nine college students as they prep and begin their hike in the Ural Mountains in 1959, the story of the search & rescue team who head out to find the hikers after they fail to return at the start of the semester, and the author's travels to Russia to meet people co ...more
