Unlike The Song of Achilles, I wasn't a sobbing mess in this one. This was a woman-centered story but not quite feminist in that Circe just lets things happen to her, or she ties her self-worth to a man's regard, except at the end. It was nice to read a fleshed-out minor character in the mythology though.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Perdita Weeks.

I LOVE THIS BOOK.

Seriously, I thought the hype is just too much but apparently the book deserved the hype!!!

Madeline Miller is a new writer for me but I feel in love with her writing and beautiful prose immediately. The way she portrayed Circe is so real, raw, and compassionate - I can't help but sympathized with her. Her life is so long and sometimes it's true the story feels a bit slow, but I enjoyed every part of it.

It's heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time, and Circe is all of us

Madeline Miller is very officially one of my favorite authors now. I loved The Song of Achilles, and Circe -- this book was brilliant. A main character who was complex and thoughtful, wonderful echoes of actual witchcraft, Miller's amazing attention to historical and mythological detail, the beautiful, delicate prose, the attention to Greek language... it's amazing. ...more

What a book about Gods should be like- merciless, careless, and terrifying. Beautifully written story.

This book was just SO good. I had always been kind of indifferent to Greek mythology so I wasn’t clamoring to read this, even after all the amazing press. I’m sorry it took me so long. It’s just such a well woven narrative that is deeply moving and also made me want to revisit those original myths.
