An inspiring story about Goodall's spiritual and intellectual journey from a young girl in England to a chimpanzee researcher and activist in Africa. I thought this book was a breath of fresh air after several other "depressing" Africa books I plowed through on my vacation. I appreciate Jane Goodall as a person. Her work and her life have certainly been remarkable and inspirational. I like the idea that humans are on this earth to fulfill their spiritual and ethical development as a species. There is a lot of food for thought in this book from Jane's own experience. It makes a case for our collective responsibility to mother earth and all creatures great and small.

This is the November 2022 selection of South Austin Spiritual Book Group.

I love what Jane Goodall has done for animals and the world. She is so humble. I met her once at a conference and said, "it's an honor to meet you!" and she replied to me that she was honored to meet me. How about that.
