IMO this was too contrived. And I’d forgotten I read it a while ago and didn’t care for it then either. Sorry !

Ok - so this is the second time I've read Shari Lapena's book- and I still wasn't convinced of her writing. It's quite amateurish (both the characters and the crime itself), with more "telling" style - she just shoved her narrative to us and dictated what we should think, instead of giving hints here and there and made her characters more compelling. Like- I don't feel connected to any of the characters, they are just a bunch of uninteresting people.

I had this book running as a Lifetime movie in my head as I read it.
Quick, engaging thriller about a couple who has their baby taken while partying next door. However, the ending was completely unnecessary and pushed the amount of twists and turns in the book over the top. Ugh - bad endings are a source of frustration for me.

I really enjoyed this book! It's a great read if you like fiction, mystery, or easy-to-read books that keep you turning the pages. I like to give three stars to books that were engaging and enjoyable, without being particularly revolutionary or life-changing. The mood you should be in when you're reading this: "I don't want to think really hard, and I've been tired lately, but I want someone to tell me a story that is interesting, surprising, and mysterious."
