Good read about Alexander III's wife, Dagmar. I am a Romanov fanatic, and I was excited to see a new book come out that offered a different perspective on the tragedy that befell the family during WWI. However, I didn't like how the author portrayed, Nicholas II's wife, Alexi. I've read many accounts of her, and I thought that Gortner made her seem stupid and selfish. I believe that that is how Dagmar viewed her to a large extent, but that doesn't mean that her perception was accurate.

I. loved this book so much! I had always been fascinated with this period in the Russian history. I was very happy to read a book that was not focused on Nicholas II.
