I enjoyed reading this book but I am struggling with my review. The subject matter is incredibly important. What these girls went through is horrific and the impact they ultimately had on worker safety was extraordinary. However, I felt that the narrative wasn't written in a compelling manner. Moore says at the end that she wanted to bring the stories of these girls to light, who they were and what they were like. I felt like she did only an ok job with meeting that objective.

This is such a compelling, tragic story! It’s the true experiences of young women who worked painting watches with radium-laced paint, so the numbers would glow. Partially due to ignorance and partly due to a cover-up by the companies, these girls were exposed to large amounts of radium, especially due to the practice of lip-pointing the brush. I never give one-star reviews because I simply don't finish those books but this one I finished for the Radium women and the lone star is for their story.
It was torturous to read and I shouldn't complain because the women had it worse but they don't deserve their story to be terribly told.
This was a data dump which seemed to be written by a different person per part. The last straw was remarking that it was "rather dismal" that the victims were called "Suicide Club" then the narrator, a century
