I was excited to read this book as part of a journey I am on to read a novel from every country...ideally written by someone originally from, and still living in said country. I am finding that often the novels I find have authors that have moved to another country at some point or have lived in many, so I’m still counting those unless I can find a novel that meets both criteria at a later point.

This book is so powerful. The fact that it is told from the perspective of a child just adds to the disorientation and terror that was reality in Colombia not too long ago. I really would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys fiction but it is also a good lesson on how a young girl was overtaken with Pablo Escobar, guerrillas and death.
