I disliked all three people in this story, but I also found their story incredibly compelling. Because they were real. These are exactly the unlikeable and stupid things that real people do. Real life rarely has happy and tidy endings, (view spoiler) .

I loved this audio book!!! The male narrator was magnificent and made me fall in love with Roy and initially Celestial. The author created a beautiful, magical, and intimate story. You feel lucky to be part of it. If you’ve read any reviews of this, the basic premise is that Roy, the husband, an African American, is wrongfully charged w the rape of a woman and is sentenced to 12 years in prison. I like me some fast-paced plot so I was indeed stuck in the middle when it was stagnant, for months.
The fourth star is because I was literally yelling at the characters in the end, and that's what art does.
I couldn't understand the leads' reasoning in some parts in the ending, but I guess they needed to process a lot and it felt like the ultimate decisions were arrived at organically. I also liked that there were different models of marriage and parenthood. ...more

Good story, very real characters, and giving an amazing perspective from African Americans point of views. A bit too slow in the middle, and I don’t really like the ending.. But the rawness of the characters made me feel emotional many times!!!
