This is a complex story, which for me boiled down to families and behaviour. Adolescents searching for their place, babies wanted and unwanted, ordered existences becoming disrupted, and events and decisions from the past surfacing and affecting events in unexpected ways.

3.5 Stars, but I rounded up. I liked the story and having it set in a time period I remember growing up in, so that was a great connection for me personally. I enjoyed each character individually and the intricate ways they all tied together. Congrats on the Good Reads Book of the Year, but I felt it wasn't the best book published in 2017. Maybe the hype made me expect something more.

This was a very interesting book. I love the twists and turns of the story. I love how the characters have unexpected experiences and how that brings some of them closer together and drives others farther apart. I found Mia especially interesting. Her art was intriguing and she had a lot of very difficult circumstances with very confusing moral implications. My second book by Celeste Ng--I liked this one more than the first one. Interesting intra-cultural & familial relationships in a nice, neat orderly suburb of Cleveland. Borrowed from the library.
