3-1/2 ⭐️ rounded up. A bit predictable but an easy no drama read for a relaxing over-Christmas holiday read. And about someone who opens a traveling bookshop in Scotland. Good accents. What more!

This was fun and fluffy. I particularly enjoyed the love story, because I was not quite sure who she was going to end up with.
The author’s note at the beginning made me laugh.
One of the things I don’t like about “chick lit “ is that the protagonists are often idiots. And that was the case here. I just didn’t like Nina - she made a series of completely idiotic decisions. I realize these things are exaggerated for comedic effect, but I don’t find it funny or charming, I find it annoying and exhau ...more

Surprisingly I really enjoyed this book!
It's a bit heave on romance, but because the setting is very interesting (small Scottish town), the main character is lovely (with her bookworm attitude and her bookish dreams), and of course, the plot about having a traveling bookshop is just too sweet to be ignored.
I think Jenny Colgan, with her easy writing and cute characters, can describe so well about the dream every bookish person has- and she can make her character so relatable. I don't even mind ...more

2.5 / 3 stars
The best part of this book was the main character's best friend. It was very Hallmark small town and then I did not like the romance at all—in fact this whole book was just like the other one I read by the author (little beach bakery) just baking swapped for books and an island swapped for small-town Scotland. That being said, it was a breezy light read. I just don't think I will read this author again as her books seem way too formulaic. ...more

OK. So, this book isn't perfect. It isn't maybe even objectively good. It's a bit twee, and precious, and everything is maybe a little too convenient and a little too perfect. It's a little too like a romance novel (I mean, it even has a bare-chested Scotsman, for Pete's sake). But after reading a few books about the Holocaust back to back, it's just the sort of sweet little fantasy I needed. 3.5 stars.
