When they first announced the TV show (2014-), I immediately jumped on board. Vampires? Yes please. Monstrous non-Twilight vampires? Hell yes. The day when I realized Kevin Durand was Joshua in Dark Angel (2000-2002), one of my favorites when I was an innocent 12-year-old, was surreal to say the least. Canned junk. I like good horror (and that includes sloppy fun), but this comes from some sort of PG-13 formula hell that Spielburg and his ilk can appreciate. No, I didn't finish it. But why? ...more

Ohh creepy creepy icky bits, wee! I stumbled upon The Strain in my library's audiobook catalogue and decided to "read" it (listen?) for the PopSugar 2015 challenge: "Book that became a TV show" (though I've yet to watch the series). Originally I gave this book 2 stars but after having some time to think it over I've dropped it down to 1. I just really didn't enjoy it. There's nothing particularly interesting about it. The main character, Eph, is a supposedly handsome genius who works for the CDC. Not only is he a walking cliche but he's also just plain boring. Next we have his female partner at the CDC who's only reason for existence is to function as his love interest. I couldn't tell you her name because she's given absol ...more

A plane lands in New York and suddenly goes dark on the runway and all but four people on board are dead. So begins this nonstop thriller. I don't want to say much more because i don't want to give away any of the twists and turns. Definitely a page turner. The only downside is this is the first book in a trilogy and now I have to wait for the next two books to be released. ...more
