I'll bet almost any American female in the neighborhood of 40 knows what I'm talkin' about! Come on, raise your hand if you didn't pass a battered copy of this around with your friends in junior high, with all the good parts dog-eared? I bet it's pretty tame and vanilla by 2010 standards but it was really controversial at the time. A sweet, funny, heartbreaking, realistic look at a first relationship.
30 years later, I still can't hear the name Ralph without giggling.

I remember feeling quite daring when I read this. But I don't really remember anything about it, so I guess it was only so-so. ...more

Pretty steamy stuff for jr. high--and a practical primer, too.

I didn't like this book .There wasn't a proper beginning. When I started the book it felt more like it was the middle of the book. The main theme of the book was sex. ...more

Perhaps I am not being entirely fair to the book, by giving it 2 stars. It was a quick read, and I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more when I was in high school. Reading it as an adult, it just seemed very simplistic, and not too well written. The story was kind of week and predictable as well, although, to the author's credit, it was very realistic. And I do think she did a pretty good job getting into Katherine's head, so much so it seemed like a not very talented 18-year-old wrote it.... ...more

I read this book while I was in high school, and I still find it to be one of the best young adult love stories ever. The movie starred Rex Smith and was decent, but the book is so spot on. Remember those feelings of first love? This book captures it and so much more.

This was the first "dirty" book I ever read. I learned more about adolescence from Judy Blume than I did from my mother and the school nurse combined. ...more
