3.5 I'd say. This author has the makings to be a lot like Sarah Addison Allen, part magic, part story teller. It got a little odd near the end, but overall a captivating story about curses as old as the trees. ...more

4.5 stars. A really sweet and surprisingly poetic love story. Lots of really visceral and sumptuous magic. Strong writing, nicely depicted environment. At times a little slow, and with some strange slightly unclear reveals, but ultimately really readable. Well done magical realism. Highly recommended for lovers of magical realism/romance and a strong emphasis on family, nature, and the supernatural.

3.5/4 stars

Mixed bag on plot structure/holes but the storytelling, setting and characters are great. Read this in one sitting 😁
