This is the kind of book that I would love to like it more, but just can't. It involves everything that I like: dogs, bittersweet drama, LA setting, and dry sense of humor. But somehow, for me, this book didn't deliver - maybe because of the way it was written.

Get your kleenex, but also be prepared to laugh! This book will pull at your heartstrings, especially for people who have had or have a fur-baby. The novel deals with life, death, letting go, and the emotions we experience as humans.

This is a poignant story about a lonely gay man and his beloved dog. Highly recommend as an audio book.

3.5 stars. They don't tell you what this book is about because they think if you knew it's about a dog that dies, you won't read it. So let me just get this out of the way right now. I have a senior dog with whom I think I may have one year left. But it's not just sad. It's also funny and witty and sweet. ...more

Not all dog owners would regard their dog as the main protagonist in this book does. As far as communing with dogs The Art of Racing in the Rain or any of Susan Wilson's dog novels are much better. ...more
