It was ok. I guess I was expecting more magic on the part of the sisters. I read this for book club, though, so no harm! I'm also considering this a ghost story, for week 44 of my 2018 Reading Challenge.

De film is beter.
I loved this! Sweet and emotional and quirky and a classic. Hoffman has undoubtedly grown as an author over the years, and her newer books have more depth, but, this is still the classic that started the saga and for that, it deserves 5 stars. Love the Owens legacy so much.
I enjoyed parts of this book. I liked the characters and I thought the idea had promise, but it sort of went nowhere in the end. The ending felt rushed and stuck in as an afterthought, and I simply could not find the love between Gary and Sally believable.
I never did see this movie (though I intend to now), but I had been curious about Alice Hoffman. It had way too much profanity and sexuality for my taste, so I can't really recommend it. I probably would have rated it higher without those aspects.

I saw the movie first and somehow I found these book characters a little more unlikeable. However, Hoffman wrote so engagingly about the magic that I can check out more of her novels later on.
A very fun read. Enjoyable prose and voice, a great cast of characters, and just enough whimsy and magic.
