Wow. So, I decided to read this book without taking a look at the synopsis. All I knew was that it fulfilled a reading challenge as a “genre-bending” book. Was it fantasy? Science fiction? Horror? I had no clue.

And I remained that way for a good portion of the book. It felt like I was pushed out of a helicopter, flailing and plummeting into the open ocean, hundreds of miles from land.

3,5 stars from me... This book is actually more science fiction than a mystery/thriller type. All the chaotic vibe reminds me of Neil Gaiman's American God or Good Omens. Pretty juicy, lots of action scenes, crazy twists and bloody fight. Most of the plot is actually a bit rubbish, unclear and unnecessary. But it's enjoyable to read, just throw out your common sense and enjoy the ride. This book is fucking weird, and I loved the hell out of it. Strange, other-worldly, and larger than life characters; an interesting and frequently unpredictable plot; amazing worldbuilding.

I do have to note that this book is incredibly violent, in a way that's reminiscent of Tarantino. Don't read it if you don't want to or can't do gore. ...more
