Well, I'm glad to hear this is not characteristic of her work from other reviews since I'd heard good things but id not enjoy this too much. I almost abandoned it, but I love low country books so I slogged through. This is really some of the worst dialogue I've seen in a book from a well known author and the inclusion of the domestic violence statistics throughout the book felt forced - like I was reading a bad script for an after school special.

I love DBF's books, but this one was a bit disappointing. Other than Ivey and Skipper, I didn't much care for most of the characters. It was just a so so story.
