I'm not sure I can put my finger on exactly why this book didn't appeal to me. I liked the sleuth, Becca, as well as Ian and Officer O'Brion (Sam). The mystery started with the death in the first 3 pages and gave a good amount of clues. The setting didn't do much for me. The book takes place in rural South Carolina, but nothing about the book seemed southern to me. I guess I expect quirkier/better/funnier characters in southern writing. I read the first chapter, put it down for a week, read the first chapter again, and gave up. Not for me.
