Good to read a book that I could not put down. I have read 4 others in his series about Gabriel Allon and have enjoyed them all. It is interesting how good Silva is at weaving in prior events into his later books so that you can pick up any one and not feel you missed a lot. Each one is a complete story, yet with the sama characters.

Gabriel Allon was a spy for the Israelis. After a tragic event involving his family he quits and takes up his cover job as an art restorer. Then Palestinian agent Tariq emerges by killing the Israeli ambassador in Paris and Gabriel reluctantly rejoins the agency to track down and kill Tariq. I think the author did a good job in trying to present both sides of the Israel/Palestine conflict. The action scenes, when they occurred, were good. There were parts of the book that dragged. I really enjoyed this book. I like the way Silva mixed and intertwined historical events into the novel. I appreciated that he shared both sides of the Israeli / Palestinian conflict. I’m sure some people may take issue with his characterization of the narratives but I was reading it solely to be entertained; and I was. This is Book #1 in the Gabriel Allon series. I will probably read the next one in the series.
