Fun, very fun. This is like reading The Night Circus but for younger audience- with the same fantastic setting, incredible characters and sweet story line. I love how Beasley portrayed the circus not like something that is only magical, but realistic as well. And sometimes miracle can come in different kind of shapes.

I think the best part about this unique story is how the author explores different types of relationships. It makes a wonderful read aloud. I also loved the full-page illustrations scattered throughout the book.

OBOB 2025 selection (grades 3-5)

I thought this book would grip me more and earlier than it did. It took a few starts for me to get engaged and finish it. I think switching to audiobook made a big difference—it was great. The reader (Bronson Pinchot) does a fantastic job, using a variety of distinct and entertaining voices (especially liked the bird Chintzy's voice).

But I do remember that it's a nice solid fantasy read for middle grades that involves a circus, a scary winged performer, an ailing grandfather, and a boy trying to make everything right. ...more
