I have a mixed review on this one. The actual storyline isn't particularly interesting. It's about a very religious girl who has been fasting for four months thus far, and so a nurse is sent to see if the girl can actually live without food. Is it a miracle from God? or a sham? Most of the book you're reading about the nurse sitting with her day in and day out. It gets very interesting two-thirds through.

I definitely felt like I was transported to 19th century Ireland in this book. And it was fascinating to learn a bit about the origins of nursing and what role Lib, a nurse, played in a patient's care (how much power and voice she had, for example). The tensions between science and Catholicism and Irish and English were also developed well. This book is very slow going and focuses solely on Lib figuring out if Anna has actually gone as long as she has said without food. Because of this sing

I liked also Room very much and similarly as in that other novel I have read from this author, I enjoyed the story and the way it is told. Characters are very well developed and you can emphasize with them. ...more
