I really enjoyed this book. At first, I found it hard to like the central character but she grew on me as the story went along and I found out more about her. And the ending surprised me, which is a rare treat.

It's 1859 and Lib Wright is a nurse in England, trained by Florence Nightingale, sent to Ireland to observe Anna O'Donnell for two weeks. Anna is eleven and claims to have not eaten for four months. Lib and a nun are sent to observe Anna around the clock to see if she really is not eating. The story starts off very slowly. Only about the last third of the book does much happen.
