Wow. I've been on a great reading run lately.

This book is fantastic. Anytime I read a book this long in less than a day, it's a good book. I found this nearly impossible to put down, except to sleep.

One day, I hope to write (and publish) YA fiction. And if I ever do, this is exactly the kind of book I want to write. Smart, funny, and lots of lessons, but not preachy. Our teens and tweens need more books like this! Quality YA lit. Now I just need to read everything else she wrote.

This is a great book set in Reading, Pennsylvania. It features Vera, whose has been living with her father since her ex-stripper mother left when Vera was twelve. Vera's best friend, Charlie, is dead, and Vera is having a lot of trouble dealing with what happened to Charlie. She feels responsible, and yet she is mad at Charlie for dying. It is a very good story about resilience, renewal, and hope. It even features the famous 'Pagoda' as part of the storyline.

I usually enjoy character driven books, and this one was no exception. Vera is a character you want to admire. She knows what she is doing, and she is confident in her decisions. The premise is, her friend Charlie dies, and there is a mystery surrounding his death. The story is told in flashbacks, and from multiple perspectives, which worked really well in this story. I enjoyed the fact that romance was not in the forefront of the story, it made it more powerful. Great book.
