I can see why this is a feminist classic. While some of Isadora's revelations seem commonplace today, in the 70s it was a different story for women. I loved the raw honesty and the humor. I would definitely recommend this to every feminist I know.

While clearly a product of a highly specific moment in time (the whole "analysis" theme seems delightfully quaint in a world where Paxil and Xanax have supplanted navel-gazing), it's gloriously readable in a way that the current wave of post-modern lit rarely is. Isadora's travails are clearly those of the '70s woman, but Jong's ability to capture the difficulty of determining your own identity in the face of conflicting input from the outside world still stands up nearly 40 years on.
